Oil/Fat-Degrading Microorganisms for Wastewater Treatment

It is very difficult to decompose and process fats and oils contained in wastewater.
When fats and oils get stuck in septic tanks and grease traps, they cause problems such as bad odors, insect infestation, and obstructed drains.
Physical removal such as pressurized flotation is a common method of removing such fats and oils, but biological treatment methods that decompose them by means of microorganisms have also been used.

However, the microorganisms conventionally used for this purpose have a weak ability to decompose fats and oils, and there have been problems such as a decrease in decomposition activity depending on the temperature decrease of the wastewater and the type of fats and oils contained in the wastewater.

The R&D Center of Prima Meat Packers Co., Ltd. has succeeded in discovering and commercializing microorganisms that have a strong ability to decompose animal and vegetable fats and oils from soil and septic tank facilities in various parts of Japan, and which are less affected by temperature and water quality.

Features

Oil/Fat-Degrading Microorganisms for Wastewater Treatment are sold in "liquid" form.

  • Strong ability to decompose animal and vegetable fats and oils
  • Wide temperature range for growth (especially at low temperatures)
  • Resistant to environmental changes in wastewater such as pH

Using wastewater containing 200 mg/L of fats and oils, we compared and evaluated the oil and fat decomposition ability of "Oil/Fat-Degrading Microorganisms for Wastewater Treatment" and commercially available microorganisms.
As a result, about 90% of the fats and oils were decomposed after 48 hours of treatment in the effluent to which "Oil/Fat-Degrading Microorganisms for Wastewater Treatment" was added.
It was confirmed that the product's ability to decompose fats and oils was higher than that of commercially available microorganisms. Our products are used by wastewater treatment maintenance companies.
