Prima Meat Packers and its group companies have acquired external certifications, ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000, and under the common food safety management system, "manufacturing" is carried out with food safety as a priority.
What are ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000?
ISO 22000 is an international standard for food safety management systems.
It is based on HACCP, a hygiene management method developed in the 1960s to ensure food safety, and is now an ISO standard common to all countries.
It requires mutual communication from the procurement of raw materials to processing at the relevant factory, logistics, and sales at stores;
system management to set specific goals and conduct education and training based on the food safety policy;
prerequisite programs for food production practices such as hand washing, equipment cleaning, and insect and pest control; and implementation of the PDCA cycle to "plan and realize safe products" in accordance with the principles of HACCP.
FSSC 22000 is a more specific clarification of the ISO 22000 standard, which was abstracted for application to the entire food industry, and it details what needs to be done in terms of building construction, utilities, materials management, general hygiene for personnel, and food security. FSSC 22000 has been approved as a certified standard by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), a non-profit foundation with international influence on food distribution.
